Kanye West Compares Himself to Moses in Viral Instagram Post

Grammy Award-winning artist Kanye West seemingly compared himself to Moses of the Bible in a now-viral Instagram story post last week.

According to The Christian Post, West took to social media last week to post an Instagram story comparing himself to Moses.

"No one asked Moses how much he slept," the rapper wrote in an Instagram story. No context was given for the post, which later went viral.

In recent years, West has become a loud voice among prominent Christians. Just last year, he even launched a private Christian school called Donda Academy in Southern California.

The school is named after West's late mother, professor Donda West.

According to the school's website, students can expect to "learn fundamentals, grow in their faith, and experience two enrichment classes," including choir, film, world language or parkour. Core classes, such as language arts, math and science, as well as "full school worship," will be part of the daily schedule.

The school's mission statement notes that the institution aims to "be a reflection of God's glory in the world."

According to a statement, Donda Academy is "a tuition-based school. Everyone is welcome to apply regardless of financial situation. Financial aid and scholarships are available for students who qualify."

As reported by Rolling Stone, Donda Academy launched in 2021 and has already begun its 2022-2023 academic year. The school, however, has yet to be accredited and was still searching for teachers shortly after the new year began.

Families who send their children to the school are required to sign nondisclosure agreements, two sources told Rolling Stone.

Tamar Andrews, a consultant for Donda Academy, indicated that more information about the school will be posted shortly but that it wasn't the school's main priority at this time.

"Honestly, we don't care if people know about the school," Andrews said. "The people that want to come to the school are looking for a good Christian school in that area, and they know that we're there … there is also a certain notoriety that comes with being affiliated with Donda. So, I don't know that we have to advertise, which is a blessing and a curse."

She added that Donda's current enrollment was under 100 students with 16 full-time teachers. Additionally, tuition is around $15,000 per year.

Malik Yusef, a producer and longtime collaborator of West, told Rolling Stone that the rapper seeks to open several campuses nationwide in the next five years.

"I want to be emphatic that there's never been a time that Kanye West did not want to do this," Yusef explained. "I think people don't understand the gravity of that. This man always wanted to create a school in his mama's name.… Look at what we're doing with the choir and the fashion in school — I don't think there's a venture capitalist or anybody that's had a vision this clear on what education can look like for you."

West, who has been a staple in mainstream hip-hop, began making faith-based music in recent years, including two albums, Jesus Is King (2019) and Donda (2021).
