Oklahoma megachurch pastor Michael Todd faced online backlash for wearing what appeared to be something women would wear, which distracted viewers from his message. During a sermon on Sunday, Todd spoke about how important it was for Christians to not waste their faith, The Christian Post reports.

"If you downgrade or devalue what faith can produce, you'll never use it right. One of the biggest epidemics in the body of Christ right now is people use their faith wrong," Todd said in his message that opened a new series called "MUSTARD: The Seed That Can Change Everything."

As an example of wasted faith, Todd said, "I'm believing God that when I go take this test, I don't have diabetes." He went on to say that the congregation wouldn't have to waste their confidence in God for results they could control if they had the self-control to eat less.

"That's a fork problem, and now we're in a huddle praying for you, believing God by faith to do what putting down the fork would do," he said.

Despite his message, Christian leaders criticized Todd for his attire.

"When you teach against biblical headship, 'you can do bad all by yourself,' 'women can be pastors,' 'divine feminine,' 'I'm momma and daddy,' you get Mike Todd," Alton T. Johnson, a Christian YouTuber and the creator of Every Knee Shall Bow Ministries, wrote.

Johnson also posted a screenshot of Todd wearing the attire with a message stating, "Pastors' out here dressing like aunties now."

Meanwhile, conservative media host Jason Whitlock of The Blaze called Todd "an abomination."

"Mike Todd is an abomination. This is sad," wrote Whitlock while also posting a picture of Todd's attire.

Michelle Lesley, an online Christian blogger, also chimed in on the controversy.

"Mike Todd: This is not your grandma's church!

Also, Mike Todd: Rocks a wicked polyester pantsuit ensemble straight outta Mamaw's closet," she wrote in response to Christian YouTuber Kdubtru, who also commented on Todd's clothing.

Kdubtru also added a meme where Todd's photo was compared with a yellow bell pepper.

Todd previously sparked outrage in 2022 for wiping globs of spit on the face of a man, who was actually his younger brother, during a sermon on Mark 8:23, where Jesus heals a blind man at Bethsaida by spitting into his eyes in private.

"It's never my intention to distract others from God's Word and the message of Jesus … even with illustrations! I apologize for my example being too extreme and disgusting!" Todd wrote at the time.

In a video accompanying his post, the megachurch pastor explained that although Jesus chose not to spit in the blind man's face publicly, his reenactment of the scene during the service was the complete opposite.

"I watched it back, and it was disgusting. Like, that was gross," he said. "I want to validate everybody's feelings. That was a distraction from what I was really trying to do — trying to make the word come alive and make people see the story."
