Greek Life, New Life: Hundreds of College Students Are Trading Parties for Christ

Hundreds of fraternity and sorority members are experiencing radical faith transformations, leading them away from the party scene and toward a deeper connection with Jesus.

Greek Life, New Life Hundreds of College Students Are Trading Parties for Christ

When students graduate from high school, many fall into the party scene. Between trying to fit in, maintain good grades, make friends, and be accepted, many lose their faith along the way. It wasn't intentional, but talking to Jesus becomes less and less of a priority. Among these groups, fraternities and sororities are often at the top of the list. In recent news, however, hundreds of fraternity and sorority members are leaving the party life behind after experiencing a radical encounter in their faith.

Greek InterVarsity, a religious organization out of Madison, Wisconsin, exists to bring together community and faith. Not only do they teach students how to lead Bible studies, but they also offer a weekly gathering for students from all chapters to worship and engage in fellowship together. As one of the largest evangelical college campus ministries in the country, leaders are noticing a surge in those walking away from the party life and "being radically transformed by Jesus." Their vision is to see every Greek as a friend, one friend away from encountering and entering into a personal relationship with Jesus. Brian Mann, the National Director of Greek InterVarsity, believes that the gospel is spreading like wildfire because of the closeness of the fraternity and sorority systems. This closeness can have either positive or negative consequences, but when Jesus is involved, interconnectedness often emerges.

"When one student living with their friends decides that they're going to partner actively with what God is doing in word and deed, it means that the 100 or 200 friends that they are living in proximity to are really now just one friend away from knowing Jesus," said Mann.

As of 2024, InterVarsity saw a 43% increase in faith-based activity attendance. Reaching over 69,023 students and faculty this year, they're projected to show over 100K students what it means to love Jesus and be part of a supportive community. One in six are involved in weekly Bible studies, prayer gatherings, and support groups. Especially after Charlie Kirk's assassination, groups all over the country are following this trend—Greek-life organization or not. According to CBN, hundreds of students were saved and baptized as 8,000 students sought Jesus at the University of Tennessee, and 1,100 gave their lives to Christ at "Life Surge" in Colorado Springs.

Jesus is moving among Gen Z, and this is just the beginning. As Romans 13:13-14 attests, when we choose Jesus over drunkenness and ways of the flesh, beauty and community result. Today, let's encourage our peers to seek fulfillment in Christ rather than social status. Churches, campus ministries, local organizations, and Christian mentors can support spiritual transformation in young adults, but it's going to take courage. Many believe that they will never leave the frat life behind, but God shows us that there's more to life than parties and grades. We just have to take Him up on His offer and share that Good News with others. Will you?

I first saw the inside of a jail cell when I was just 13 years old. Like so many people, young and old, I had lost my way. I thought that drugs and violence could save me. Instead, they only brought me, and everyone around me, a great deal of pain. At 19, I was arrested and incarcerated for third-degree...More
