Jaden Ivey's tenure with the Chicago Bulls was abruptly ended after his public stance on LGBTQ+ Pride Month led to his dismissal for "conduct detrimental to the team."



Jaden Ivey, a leading star front office player for the Chicago Bulls, was recently dismissed from his position with the crew due to “conduct detrimental to the team.” Though the 24-year-old professional basketball player had skill and grit, it was his commentary regarding the NBA’s celebration of LGBT Pride Month that dismissed him from the team.

Calling the NBA’s celebration “unrighteousness,” Ivey then decided to proclaim his faith from the streets.

“And eat of the tree of life. Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God,” Ivey noted in a viral video clip showing him preaching in Chicago. With more than 40,000 views, the video has provoked a range of reactions from his followers.

“Jaden Ivey is out here preaching on the streets after the Chicago Bulls fired him for his bold Christian faith. They called it ‘conduct detrimental to the team.’ He calls it preaching the Gospel. I’ve been saying it — this man is called to preach,” wrote pastor and apologist, the Rev. Jordan Wells, in a statement on X.

Josh Howerton, a senior pastor at Lakepointe Church in Texas, also praised Ivey for his bold faith, noting, “To understand what just happened to NBA star Jaden Ivey, all we have to do is go back to Daniel in the Bible. Obey God rather than men,” Howerton wrote in a statement on Facebook.

Though Ivey has always been vocal about his faith throughout his time in the NBA draft, his stance regarding LGBTQ rights cost him his job:

“[The Bulls] said my conduct is detrimental to the team," he said. "Why didn't they just say, 'We don't agree with his stance on LGBTQ'? Why didn't they say that? ... How is it conduct detrimental to the team? What did I do to the team? What did I do to the players? They’re lying, saying my conduct is detrimental to the team. That’s a lie. Ask any one of those coaches in there, ‘Was I a good teammate?’ All I’m preaching about is Jesus Christ, and they waived me. They say I’m crazy, right? I’m psycho,” he said. “I didn’t get myself waived. I was in the gym today. I was rehabbing, doing what was required of my job.”

Beyond Ivey’s dismissal, the Bulls also fired the president of basketball operations, Arturas Karnisovas, and general manager Marc Eversley in early April due to mediocrity, a lack of progress, and growing disconnect regarding the team’s future.
