Jackie Hill Perry addresses a Pride Month controversy by sharing her transformative testimony of finding faith in Christ, aiming to point others to the Gospel's power.

Jackie Hill Perry Uses Viral Pride Month Controversy to Share the Gospel

Author, artist, and speaker Jackie Hill Perry is using a Pride Month social media controversy surrounding her past to point people to the Gospel, saying in a now-viral video that her goal is to “tell the truth and shame the devil.”

The controversy, she said, began on Threads with a random “Happy Pride Month” post addressed to Perry but soon morphed into a debate in the comments about her past, her beliefs, and, in her words, “if I'm gay, how I dress, stuff like that.”

Perry has long shared how she once identified as a lesbian before placing her faith in Christ, a decision she says transformed the direction of her life. She and her husband, Preston Perry, host a podcast, With the Perrys.

“Satan is always doing something, but God is always doing more,” she said.

Perry’s video has more than 1 million views on Instagram.

She said she saw the Threads post and started praying, “Lord, draw people to yourself, save people, convict people, change people.”

Responding to those who question her testimony, Perry said, “God saves sinners” – and He gives them the power to resist sinful desires and pursue a new life in Christ.

“When God saves, He changes the heart, He changes the desires, and that doesn't necessarily mean that He removes temptations – but what it means is when you are saved, you are given a greater love and affection and desire for God, that then trumps all the other things that you used to love,” she said.

Meanwhile, Perry said the modern church “has not communicated the good news accurately” when discussing temptation, sanctification, and sexuality.

“God saves people, He does make them new, He does change them, they are raised from the grave – but that does not absolve the fact that they will have issues, they will have struggles, they will have memories, they will have moments. And the gospel always begs the question: When you are tempted to love somebody else, will you choose to love Him more?

“And the gospel says you can, because Christ Jesus died and rose from the grave.”

Perry concluded by saying her testimony is shaped by the power of Christ in her own life.

“There is not a single soul that will ever be able to change my mind about that – because I know Him,” she said. “It ain't just that I read about Him. I know Him, I meet with Him, I hear from Him, I am comforted by Him, I am empowered by Him. I literally experience daily resurrection power.

“You want me to lie – and I can't do that. I can't. I can't lie about what I know is true – from the text and from the power of God in me that I've experienced in myself and in others.”
