Federal, State Lawmakers Working to Shift June to ‘Family Month’ rather than ‘Pride Month’

Lawmakers at both federal and state levels are taking steps to recognize and celebrate the traditional nuclear family, with several states proclaiming June as "Family Month," "Fidelity Month," or "Strong Families Month."

Not only are lawmakers on both the federal and state levels recognizing that a traditional nuclear family is the best-case scenario in which children can grow up, but they are also beginning to take steps to protect and celebrate it.

Federal Efforts to make June ‘Family Month’
Rep. Mary Miller (R-IL) has introduced a resolution in the House that would declare June “Family Month” rather than “Pride Month.”

“The breakdown of the family has caused inestimable damage to our country,” Rep. Miller told the Daily Citizen in an exclusive interview. “We need to get back to our Biblical Christian roots. We need to support intact families – a husband and wife committed to each other.”

The resolution also asserts that a traditional family is “the foundation of a healthy society, and that female moms and male dads who are married play a crucial and irreplaceable role in the upbringing of their children [whereby they’ll have] the best environment for [their] children to thrive.”

“Last year I was on an island by myself,” Rep. Miller said. “This year, we’re seeing governors get on board and issue resolutions for their states.”

She went on to note that she hopes the momentum will make its way into the churches, and that she’s hoping, “churches will think to use June as a time to really promote the family, perhaps by holding marriage seminars, parenting classes, or even family celebrations.”

Institute for Family Studies notes that married parents “tend to have more time, money, and emotional bandwidth to invest in raising their children.” Boys are especially negatively impacted in a home where the father is absent. The studies also reveal that children who grow up in households with married parents will have a more positive adult life.

State Efforts to Encourage the Celebration of Traditional Families during June
A few states that are putting their own spin on shifting June to Family Month are Arkansas, Utah, and Alabama. They have issued proclamations in which they declared June “Fidelity Month” or “Strong Families Month.”

“Cultivating fidelity to God, family, community, and country contributes to human flourishing and supports a healthy, stable, well-ordered society,” Arkansas Governor Sarah Sanders said in her proclamation making June “Fidelity Month,” according to the Christian Post.

“Practices that encourage virtue, commitment, responsibility, and shared moral foundations strengthen both individuals and their communities,” she stated. “Fidelity month provides an opportunity for residents to reflect on and renew commitments to these shared values and institutions.”

Utah Governor Spencer Cox noted in his proclamation of “Fidelity Month” that most Americans no longer see values such as faith, family, patriotism, or community involvement as important. He stated that these are a part of fidelity.

“The survival of the United States depends upon the shared bonds of faith, family, and patriotism. It is fitting to observe one month each year to rededicate the United States to its core values,” he added.

Alabama Governor Kay Ivey proclaimed June as “Strong Families Month,” in which she outlined all the benefits of “Homes led by a father and mother,” that have been revealed through studies and Alabama’s history.

Indiana Governor Mike Braun issued a proclamation specifically highlighting June as “Nuclear Family Month, according to the Christian Post.

Tennessee Governor Bill Lee signed the legislation passed by his Congress into law in April. The law declared June as “Family Month,” specifically noting “the nuclear family, consisting of one husband, one wife, and any biological, adopted, or fostered children, is God’s design for familial structure and has been the bedrock of society since the creation of the world,” and that “the nuclear family built the United States of America and created prosperity within our nation.” according to Liberty Counsel.

If the devil was aware of what would happen after crucifying Jesus, he would not have ventured into it. But unfortunately for him, he never knew of the glorious manifestation of God's purpose for humanity through the death of Christ on the cross and His resurrection.

Memorial Day is a day we as Americans stop and honor the brave men and women who have fought and died serving our country. At the Museum of the Bible in Washington, they're observing the somber day by displaying some well-worn Bibles that accompanied soldiers into war.
