Former Vice President Mike Pence Is Recovering Well after Surgery for Pacemaker Implant

Former Vice President Mike Pence underwent surgery for a pacemaker implant on Wednesday at Inova Fairfax Hospital and is now doing well.

A statement obtained by CSPAN reads, "Over the past two weeks, former Vice President Pence experienced symptoms associated with a slow heart rate and, upon consultation with his doctors, underwent a procedure yesterday at Inova Fairfax Medical Campus in Falls Church, Virginia, to implant a pacemaker. The routine surgery was successful, and he is expected to fully recover and return to normal activity in the coming days."

The statement provides some background in his diagnosis, stating a slower heartbeat was the main reason he underwent surgery. Mike Pence also added his own comments expressing his gratitude for all the doctors involved and thanked his longtime physicians for counseling him on the operation.

Pence stated, "I am grateful for the swift professionalism and care of the outstanding doctors, nurses, and staff at Inova Heart and Vascular Institute, including Dr. Brett Atwater and Dr. Behnam Tehrani. I also appreciate the consultation of my longtime Indiana physicians, Dr. Michael Busk and Dr. Charles Taliercio at Ascension St. Vincent. My family has been truly blessed by the work of these dedicated healthcare professionals."

Pence was the Vice President under Trump from 2017 through January of 2021 and oversaw the Coronavirus Task Force, which laid the groundwork for the vast majority of work the Biden Administration has been conducting for COVID-19.

Pence recently made headlines after announcing the start of a new PAC that will push Christian candidates. His new Conservative advocacy group just launched in April with the sole purpose of advocating for freedom-based solutions to today's political issues. President Trump, Newt Gingrich, and Pastor Robert Jeffress, in addition to the presidents of the Susan B. Anthony List and Heritage Foundation are all involved.
