Christ’s Greatness

Who is image of the invisible God, firstborn of all creation; because by Him were created all things, the things in the heavens and the things upon the earth, the visible and the invisible, whether thrones, or lordships, or principalities, or authorities: all things have been created by Him and for Him. And He is before all, and all things subsist together by Him.
Colossians 1:15-17 JND

Christ's Greatness
Our Lord Jesus Christ is the Son of the love of the Father (Col. 1:13). At the same time, He is truly God while He also represents God in this universe. Christ is the Image of the true God who is invisible, whom no creature can see (1 Tim. 6:16). As the Image, Christ reflects God because He is God. Yet He became Man and now as Man He reveals God to man, although He is and remains God. He never gave up what He ever was in order to become what He never was before.

This unfathomable mystery—that Christ is God and Man in one Person, the Word that became flesh—is accepted by faith, not by human reasoning. Although we will never fully understand it, it is a blessed truth that causes us to worship Him now and forever.

Christ's greatness is summarized in three points in Colossians 1:15-17. First, seen in His relationship to others, Christ is the Firstborn of all creation, whereas as the Son, the Only-begotten, He is in a unique relationship to the Father. Second, Christ is the Creator of all things (v. 16); the various prepositions used—in, through (or by), and for—show Him to be the Designer, the Chief Executive, and the Object of creation. Other passages teach that God the Father and the Holy Spirit were also involved in creation. As the Creator, Christ is before all things, for nothing was made without Him (Jn. 1:3). Third, He is the One through whom all things subsist together; He is the Upholder and Sustainer.

Behold, the angel of the Lord appeared unto him in a dream, saying, Joseph, thou son of David, fear not to take unto thee Mary thy wife: for that which is conceived in her is of the Holy Ghost. And she shall bring forth a Son, and thou shalt call His name Jesus: for He shall save His people from their...More

TOTAL COMPLIANCE REQUIRED

When we teach about tithes and first fruits, some people think that it is the pastor's way of making money but they are making a great mistake. When you put God first, He will make sure that your blessings are irreversible. But if you decide to give Him second place in your life, you may not be happy to see what...More

FACING OUR PAST

READ:
.
Like Paul,we don't need to parade our failures or to pretend they didn't happen. Instead, we can thank the Lord that through His grace and power, our past is forgiven, our presence is changed, and our future is bright with hope for all he has prepared for us. - David...More
