Lessons on Asa (3)—Three Important Truths

Hear me, Asa, and all Judah and Benjamin. The Lord is with you while you are with Him. If you seek Him, He will be found by you; but if you forsake Him, He will forsake you.
2 Chronicles 15:2

Lessons on Asa (3)—Three Important Truths
Azariah, the son of Oded, spoke these words to Asa after the great victory they had over Zerah the Ethiopian. Asa had cried out to the Lord for His help, and his faith was greatly rewarded. He had rested on God. He had passed the test of his faith successfully.

Three important truths are presented to us in this verse. First, the Lord is with you while you are with Him. We often say to others, “May the Lord be with you,” or ask the Lord to be with us in this or that circumstance. This is a nice thing to do and a good thing to ask, but we must be careful not to be misled into thinking that He is with us wherever we go. The condition of His presence is for us to be where He is. This is what Asa learned and experienced with great joy, and this is still true today. The Lord Jesus said, “If anyone serves Me, let him follow Me; and where I am, there My servant will be also” (Jn. 12:26). True, the Lord is always with us, but we will enjoy His presence, help, and blessing only when we are with Him, walking in uninterrupted fellowship with Him.

The second truth we read is, if you seek Him, He will be found by you. Yes, God “is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him” (Heb. 11:6). God is not hard to find; we make it difficult ourselves by our way of thinking. If we have sinned, let us confess it readily. Then, let us go to Him, with the desire to meet Him, and He will bless us with His own blessed Person.

The third truth is, if you forsake Him, He will forsake you. Those who deny Him, He will also deny (2 Tim. 2:12). There are also those “departing from the living God” from “an evil heart of unbelief” (Heb. 3:12). But of those who truly believe that Jesus is the Son of God, to them it is said, “I will never leave you nor forsake you” (13:5). May these truths warm and encourage our hearts!
