Are You Interested in Being Broadened Exceedingly?
"Broaden your world. Read a magazine during your lunch break." So read the advertisement on the side of a magazine delivery van. How true! Whether our world involves gardening or gossip, sports or soaps, automobiles or aerobics; we can undoubtedly broaden it by reading the latest magazine on the subject.

But suppose our world involves reaching the lost, encouraging the Lord's people, teaching the Word of God, and basically living for the glory of God. For this, we'll need something more than the latest magazine, however useful that may be in its place. To broaden our world in the sense of living for Christ, we need the precious Word of God.

I'm struck with the psalmist's description of the commandment of God as exceeding broad. But I'm not surprised. That which is of God must always exceed that which is of man. As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are His thoughts higher than our thoughts and His ways than our ways. Man's thoughts always bring us to an end of all perfection; God's thoughts lead us to the increasing enjoyment of His perfections. No wonder the psalmist went on to exclaim, . Notice the expression all the day.

Either a magazine or a bit of Scripture at lunchtime will broaden our world a bit. But are we interested in just a bit of broadening, or are we interested in being broadened exceedingly? Then the answer is not a nibble, but a feast; not a passing thought, but a meditation all the day. This will result in true broad-mindedness.
