Do You Have Any Symptoms?

Looking carefully lest anyone fall short of the grace of God.
Hebrews 12:15

Do You Have Any Symptoms?
In late 2019 and into 2020, countries around the world began responding to the new coronavirus infections which brought death to hundreds of thousands and sickened millions more. That spring, a news magazine presented firsthand accounts of medical workers. One article, following a New York City paramedic, noted that all her patients had likely been infected the week before. “Fighting COVID,” the article said, “is like racing toward a star that may have burned out centuries ago but whose light is only just now reaching the eye.”

This expresses one of the tragedies of those days: the sick had unknowingly carried the virus, symptom-free, yet it was within them all the same. The sudden presence of cough and fever were simply indicators that the virus had already undermined their health, in some cases fatally.

Without minimizing the very real sorrows of illness and death, we can also notice a parallel spiritual truth. Many times there are unpleasant facts about us which spring from deeply rooted causes within. Perhaps our love of money or our expensive desires reveal that we aren’t truly content to trust God as our Provider. Perhaps our family or assembly tensions indicate that we do not fully appreciate God’s peace in our hearts. A crushing sense of false guilt might stem from bad theology about the truth of justification or what it means to be accepted in the Beloved. Various doubts, conflicts, and fears may surface in other ways.

Like an infection, the effects of a hidden spiritual condition may take a while to reach the eye. If, however, we detect symptoms in ourselves, let us flee to the Healer! Sins of behavior or weaknesses of faith will only lead to worsening spiritual health. And if we detect these tendencies in others, let us apply the healing salve of the grace of God.

In the hope of eternal life, which God, who cannot lie, promised before the ages of time, but has manifested in its own due season His word.
(Titus 1:2-3)

THE NON-LYING GOD (2)
I can lie. Titus could too, and so could the Cretans. But God can not lie. I can deceive. But...More

TURNING WEAKNESSES INTO BLESSINGS

Our God is a God of miracles. He moves in mysterious ways and He still calls people to His side today. Many people have the call of God on their life but do not know. Some people believe they are too weak to be used of God, while some others, who are already in a position of service, are facing frustration or even...More

A BURNT SACRIFICE

Leviticus 1:9; 3:5; Romans 12:1-2

Today, we shall round up our meditations on the exemplary testimony given by Jesus about John the Baptist as a burning and shining light. John's life exemplified a life laid before the
altar of sacrifice, “And the same John had his raiment of camel's...More
