In What Way Have You Loved Us?

"I have loved you," says the Lord. "Yet you say, ‘In what way have you loved us?'"

God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son.

To Him who loved us and washed us from our sins in His own blood.

Malachi 1:2; John 3:16; Revelation 1:5

In What Way Have You Loved Us?
Do you feel loved? Malachi wrote to the remnant of Judah who had returned to the land of promise. When he gave them the Lord's word, "I have loved you," immediately they questioned His love: "In what way have You loved us?" Had they forgotten their deliverance from Egypt? Or how their God had delivered them from Babylon to return to His land?

Yet how quick some of us may be in our day to question the love of God and the love of the Lord Jesus. Let us consider a few scriptures together that speak of this divine love for us.

The love of God: "But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us" (Rom. 5:8).

The love of Christ: "Christ also has loved us and given Himself for us, an offering and a sacrifice to God for a sweet-smelling aroma" (Eph. 5:2).

The emphasis in these scriptures is that the love of God and of Christ for us was seen in the sufferings and death of Christ at the cross. If we want to know how much we have been loved, we need to dwell and meditate on "God's unspeakable gift" of His Son, and the Son giving Himself for us at Calvary.

Are we loved still? Yes, for now, "Who shall separate us from the love of Christ?" (Rom. 8:35). In a word, nothing! May we be persuaded like Paul that nothing "shall be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord" (Rom. 8:39).

Are we loved? Whatever we may feel from day to day—how untrustworthy our feelings are!—we are indeed greatly loved!
