Thinking About God

Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.
Romans 12:2

Thinking About God
The world is constantly telling us how to think, even what to think about God! But Paul urges us to have a different mindset concerning who God is. I would like to underline three reasons why what we think of God and how we think of Him is so important in our Christian life.

1. Right thinking about our God is the way we show Him that we love Him. Look at Matthew 22:37; notice we are to "love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind." This means that our minds should have right thinking about who God is and what God is like. This right thinking can only come from the Word of God! So we have to be men and women who get into this book and let this book get into us! C. H. Spurgeon said, "He who thinks about God will have a larger mind then the man who simply plods along this narrow globe."

2. Right thinking about God helps us to avoid idolatry. Idolatry begins in the mind. It has been said, "Idolatry is the entertainment of thoughts about God that are unworthy of Him." When we fashion an image of God in our minds that is not consistent with what the Bible says about Him, this is idolatry! God has revealed Himself to us in His written Word, and through the Living Word, the Lord Jesus Christ.

3. Right thinking about God strengthens us to walk by faith. When we read Hebrews 11, we are reminded that those in this chapter all knew God! They walked with God personally and had an intimate relationship with Him.

CAN SATAN RIGHTLY ACCUSE YOU?

Besides discouragement, another weapon Satan uses often against believers is their weaknesses. He simply studies an individual for a period of time and not long after, he identifies the fellow's weakness and capitalizes on it. Take for instance Peter. Satan discovered that Peter is a cowardly person-lacking in...More

DON'T KILL YOURSELF FOR NOTHING

Do hope you are learning from our meditations through Psalm 73. It pictures to us the reality of everyday living. I do hope you are realizing that after all there is no point envying the prosperous wicked. Do not kill yourself for nothing. You have your life to live. Do not be a puppet dancing the...More

Hudson Taylor...

John 19:30

The parents of Hudson Taylor (1832-1905), the well-known missionary in China, were believers. From their example, he noticed early in life how helpful prayer and the Bible are.
His parents' exemplary life impressed him, and he endeavoured to be as good a Christian as they were....More
