Two questions that Jesus asked

Jesus asked his disciples, saying, Who do men say that I, the Son of man, am? ... Who do you say that I am?
Matthew 16:13.15.

Two questions that Jesus asked
The first question asked by Jesus, "Who do men say that I, the Son of man, am?" causes most people no problem: they are not involved personally.

Jesus Christ's contemporaries had a very positive opinion on His Person. He was compared with the great prophets of the Old Testament, a very noble estimation indeed, but wrong! Equally high opinions of prominent persons also miss the point. The greatest personalities cannot be placed on a level with the Son of God.

So we come to the second question: "Who do you say that I am?" The men from Galilee who were His disciples were standing before Him.

Simon Peter was a fisherman from the Lake of Genessaret who had left all to follow Jesus. His answer was: "You are the Christ, the Son of the living God." These men had truly recognised Jesus as the Son of God.

We today are not eye-witnesses of Jesus' miracles. Nor have we heard His preaching. We haven't been able to experience His loving care in the same way as those He helped in His own day down here. But we have detailed, reliable accounts of them in the gospels in the Bible. And the Son of God is alive. He reveals Himself to whoever inquires after Him. So it is also possible for us to recognise Him as the Son of the living God. Therefore the second question applies equally to you? Who is Jesus Christ for you?

Today's reading: Exodus 25:1-22 · Luke 9:37-50

FASTING IS NECESSARY

To relate with the Holy Spirit, you must be holy. You must also exercise a living faith, pray and fast. Some people will tell you that because had finished the work of salvation, there is no need to fast. To them, fasting is completely needless and is some form of self-inflicted punishment. But they forget that...More

HOW PROPHETIC ARE YOUR NAMES?

The name you bear is very important because it serves as your identity and your future may be connected to it. The name a person bears is sometimes indicative of the experiences he or she will encounter in life. Take for instance Moses: this name means "drawn out of water"

Bible in one year:
