September 28, 2015 Today's reading: 1 Corinthians 11:1-16 And therefore it was imputed to him for righteousness. Now it was not written for his sake alone, that it was imputed to him; But for us also, to whom it shall be imputed, if we believe on him that raised up Jesus our Lord from the dead; Who was delivered for our offences, and was raised again for our justification. Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ: Romans 4:22-25; 5:1 Can we get back to square one? Man has been given intelligence by his Creator which enables him to realise wonders that arouse our admiration. But he cannot repair the spider's web that his broom has damaged nor give back to the butterfly the delicate wing crumpled in his fingers. What is more important: it is not possible for him to undo the harm that his hardness and lack of love have caused in his surroundings nor relive a wasted day to spend it otherwise. Even more serious is his inability to wipe out a single sin he has committed or save his soul from eternal condemnation. What no-one has ever been able to do, and what is essential for everyone, God has accomplished for whoever receives His Word with a penitent, humble heart. He wipes out our transgressions: "I, even I, am he who blots out your transgressions for my own sake; and I will not remember your sins" (Isaiah 43:25). God gives such persons a new start to life. He doesn't refuse to relent over their sins: He forgets them and often is gracious enough to obliterate some of their consequences. "If anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new" (2 Corinthians 5:17). Good intentions or resolutions will not suffice for a fresh start. Jesus said, "Do not marvel that I said, you must be born again" (John 3:7). |

This trend did not just start, but has been on for some time now. The result is that many untrained children of few years back have become parents themselves. It is the multiplier effect of their lack of proper home...More |

Published in 1939, it retells the story of Moses and the Exodus. Hurston altered details of the story for her own purposes, weaving in allusions to African American history, folklore, and song.
