One foot in the grave

God said to him, Fool! This night your soul will be required of you; then whose will those things be which you have provided? So is he who lays up treasure for himself, and is not rich toward God.

Now is the day of salvation.

Luke 12:20.21; 2 Corinthians 6:2.

One foot in the grave
In 1942 in a town in the Massif Central in France a young man lay bedridden, struck down by tuberculosis. He was very weak and almost unconscious. Three doctors standing by spoke in a low voice. One of them remarked, "Poor lad, he already has one foot in the grave." But the young man heard him. Crushed by those words, he remained silent and didn't react.

All night that doctor's sentence plagued him. He already saw himself standing before the divine Judge. His sinful conduct had brought him far away from God. He thought about the gospel, about Jesus who was calling him and who died for him. He made the one important decision: he confessed his wrongdoing and accepted Jesus as his Saviour.

That change was to last. He pledged his whole life after he was cured with a single witness - God Himself.

Fifty years later the memory of that night was still engraved in him, the night when he found peace with God, when he obeyed Jesus Christ and remained steadfast, the night that transformed his life.

Everyone should ask himself: "Have I ever had a deep, serious, decisive contact with God? Have I decided to follow Jesus Christ?" It is not too late to do so. Today God still forgives and grants grace to whoever entreats Him. But beware! Do not postpone your decision to a future date over which you have no control. The time to act is now!

Today's reading: Jeremiah 51:34-64 · Romans 15:23-33

FASTING IS NECESSARY

To relate with the Holy Spirit, you must be holy. You must also exercise a living faith, pray and fast. Some people will tell you that because had finished the work of salvation, there is no need to fast. To them, fasting is completely needless and is some form of self-inflicted punishment. But they forget that...More

HOW PROPHETIC ARE YOUR NAMES?

The name you bear is very important because it serves as your identity and your future may be connected to it. The name a person bears is sometimes indicative of the experiences he or she will encounter in life. Take for instance Moses: this name means "drawn out of water"
