Today's reading: Numbers 8

And it came to pass in Iconium, that they went both together into the synagogue of the Jews, and so spake, that a great multitude both of the Jews and also of the Greeks believed. But the unbelieving Jews stirred up the Gentiles, and made their minds evil affected against the brethren. Long time therefore abode they speaking boldly in the Lord, which gave testimony unto the word of his grace, and granted signs and wonders to be done by their hands. But the multitude of the city was divided: and part held with the Jews, and part with the apostles. And when there was an assault made both of the Gentiles, and also of the Jews with their rulers, to use them despitefully, and to stone them, They were ware of it, and fled unto Lystra and Derbe, cities of Lycaonia, and unto the region that lieth round about:
Acts 14:1-6

Thoughts on the Book of Acts (114)
In Iconium, Paul and Barnabas also visited the Jewish synagogoue first of all. Through their preaching, many found faith in Jesus, the Messiah and Redeemer.
However, here, too there was soon resistance among unbelieving Jews. The word "unbelieving" here also means "disobedient". This makes it clear that their sin lay primarily not in the trangression of single commandments, but in the rejection of the Son of God. Whoever refuses the grace that is offered us in Christ, is disobedient towards God.
Nevertheless, the missionaries were able to preach the gospel in Iconium for a lengthy period. Moreover, God supported their preaching with signs and wonders. As in the life of Jesus Himself, we see here that whoever had already decided against Christ in his heart would not be convinced by miracles either. Eventually, Paul's and Barnabas' lives were threatened, and they fled.
(to be continued next Sunday)

GOD PROMOTES

When God set out to deliver the children of Israel from Egypt, it was to take them out of captivity and bondage and to lift them up. God has come to take you out of your current location in the miry clay to your promised land - a land flowing with milk and honey. This simply tells us that the God of Abraham, Isaac...More

TRAIN UP YOUR CHILD 1

One major undoing of modern civilized society is an abounding generation of untrained children. This trend did not just start, but has been on for some time now. The result is that many untrained children of few years back have become parents themselves. It is the multiplier effect of their lack of proper home...More

A LIBERAL HEART?

, God asked the widow to feed the prophet before taking care of herself. At the end of the day, what was not enough became more than enough. To what extent do you practice giving as an individual, family, church or nation?

Those who never give will continue to beg, if you desire to...More

Hebrews 11:24-28

Author Zora Neale Hurston wrote a book titled Moses, Man of the Mountain. Published in 1939, it retells the story of Moses and the Exodus. Hurston altered details of the story for her own purposes, weaving in allusions to African American history, folklore, and song. She reflected...More
