The Bible - the Word of God
The Bible has been given to us through the inspiration of God Himself. The individual writer of its books did not simply record what they considered right and good, but what God assigned them to write. The content of the Bible is thus of divine origin. From it becomes clear, additionally, that even the wording was not left to the writers: God's message in the separate books was set down "in words...which the Holy Spirit teaches." In order to benefit from this verbal inspiration today, it is important to have a reliable translation of the original text.
Nevertheless, God took the literary style of the writer into account in the inspiration of the Bible. The apostle John, for example, wrote differently from Luke, the physician. If we compare the report of the four evangelists, we find it striking that their accounts reveal differences in varying degrees. Does that signify a contradiction? By no means! God directed things in this way so as to spotlight distinctive instruction thereby. These differences should not confuse us but rather bring the manifold teaching of the Word of God before us.
If we remember that the Bible is literally God's message for us, then it is imperative that we should read this book and follow its instruction. At the same time, it affords us confidence and security: the entire content of the Bible is absolutely reliable, for it is God's message to mankind.
