The value of a child

Unless you are converted and become as little children, you will by no means enter the kingdom of heaven.
Matthew 18:3

The value of a child
The disciples come to the Lord Jesus with the question, “Who then is greatest in the kingdom of heaven?” Before He responds, He places a little child in their midst. Then He gives a multi-part answer that clearly emphasises the value of children (Matthew 18:3–6):

a. “Unless you are converted and become as little children, you will by no means enter the kingdom of heaven.” To enter into a relationship with God, we must become like little children. Only those who in simplicity believe in the Saviour, Jesus Christ, and trust Him will be saved.

b. “Whoever humbles himself as this little child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven.” In the circle of believers, true greatness is characterised by a humble attitude that thinks nothing of itself. In this, many children are an example to us.

c. “Whoever receives one little child like this in My name receives Me.” With this the Lord urges us to open our hearts and homes to children. Don’t we want to serve them to the best of our ability – even if they bring dirt into the house and sometimes forget to say thank you?

d. “But whoever causes one of these little ones who believe in Me to sin, it would be better for him if a millstone were hung around his neck, and he were drowned in the depth of the sea.” This is a serious warning not to trip up children by our words or behaviour.

Today’s reading: Genesis 24:1-14 · Psalms 7:1-8

Today God is calling you (3)

I have prayed for you, that your faith will not fail.' Luke 22:32 NASB

God wants you to do His will, but you'll never reach the place of spiritual maturity in which you're free of Satan. You can overcome him, but you can't eliminate him. Look at Peter. He had only one gear: overdrive. He was always...More
