As a child, I had a luminous star hanging...

God is love. In this the love of God was manifested toward us, that God has sent His only begotten Son into the world, that we might live through Him.
1 John 4:8–9

As a child, I had a luminous star hanging above my bed. It glowed in the dark when nothing else was visible in my room. And against the bright background of the star stood out the imprinted words, clearly legible: “God is love”.

The light of God’s love also shines in the darkness of our times. Day after day, the media reports violence, hatred, injustice and even rebellion against God. But the love of God casts a bright glow into the darkness of the world, especially through the message of the cross. There God gave His own beloved Son to die for us, so that we can turn to Him, to His light and to His love.

Around us there is usually little love to be seen, but in the cross of Jesus Christ, the love of God shines forth brightly and clearly. This is able to give courage to everyone, for we all have a deep thirst for love and security. The sacrificial death of Jesus is proof that God loves every person and wants to call them out of darkness into His bright light.

“For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life” (John 3:16).

What a glorious offer of God’s love! Accept it today, for “he who has the Son has life” (1 John 5:12).

There is life for a look at the Crucified One,
There is life at this moment for thee;
Then look, sinner, look unto Him and be saved,
Unto Him who was nailed to the tree.
(Amelia M. Hull, 1812–1884)

Today’s reading: Isaiah 61:1-11 · Mark 2:1-12

HOW PROPHETIC ARE YOUR NAMES?

The name you bear is very important because it serves as your identity and your future may be connected to it. The name a person bears is sometimes indicative of the experiences he or she will encounter in life. Take for instance Moses: this name means "drawn out of water"

Look For Teaching Moments

What do these stones mean?' Joshua 4:21 NIV

One of the most effective ways to teach is through teaching moments'. Jesus did that. When a fig tree didn't produce fruit, He cursed it and it immediately withered up. That got the disciples' attention (see Matthew 21:18-22). Then He explained that unless...More
