Serving the Lord

And say to Archippus, Take heed to the ministry which you have received in the Lord, that you may fulfil it.
Colossians 4:17

Serving the Lord
Archippus received a very personal exhortation concerning his ministry. From this we learn that the Lord gives each of us a personal task in His work that we are to fulfil for Him. We are responsible to Him to do what He tells us to do.

However, we mustn’t forget that we are co-workers. There are also other Christians who are working in the same work. Good cooperation, therefore, requires taking a humble position, being considerate of others and respecting their service.

The exhortation to Archippus was, “Take heed to the ministry which you have received in the Lord, that you may fulfil it.” Now what was his problem?

o Perhaps he was in danger of giving up his work because it had become difficult and tedious. Therefore, he had to be encouraged to continue in spite of problems. In our service for the Lord, we also struggle with difficulties and opposition. How quickly we become discouraged. But the Lord wants us to continue in our work until He comes.
o Perhaps Archippus would rather have done something other than what the Lord had told him to do. Therefore, he needed to be reminded of the commission he had received from his Master. We are just as much in danger of wishing for a ministry that has been appointed to others. How good it is when the Lord then calls us back to our own service!

Today’s reading: Habakkuk 2:1-20 · Mark 10:13-22

GOD HAS A SUBSTITUTE

One thing we need to learn in today's reading is that God always has a substitute. If God says He wants you, rejoice! However, be careful, because even as He is choosing you, He has already prepared a substitute.
