If you are willing, you can make me clean (1)

And there came a leper to him, beseeching him, and kneeling down to him, and saying unto him, If thou wilt, thou canst make me clean. And Jesus, moved with compassion, put forth his hand, and touched him, and saith unto him, I will; be thou clean. And as soon as he had spoken, immediately the leprosy departed from him, and he was cleansed.
Mark 1:40-42

If you are willing, you can make me clean (1)
Leprosy is a dreadful disease. It starts apparently harmlessly. But because it affects primarily the nerves beside the skin, those infected lose any feeling of heat or pain. This then generally leads to additional infections and injuries. For a long time, leprosy was incurable. No-one could help in any way, least of all the one afflicted.
For this reason, whenever leprosy is mentioned in the Bible, it is always an apt illustration of sin, from which no one is free. All are affected unexceptionably. And like leprosy, the disease of sin leads to death and perdition.
Because of the danger of infection, lepers are kept strictly isolated from others. With sin, it is similar. Although sinners do not lack distractions, deep down in their hearts, sin makes them feel more and more lonely. Moreover, they get further and further away from the one Person who can help them.
The leper in our verses above recognised his situation. How he longed to be cured and cleansed! So when he heard of the Lord Jesus, there was only one thing to do: go to Him, the Son of God. Without hesitating or paying attention to others who might have restrained him, he went. Then we hear him saying, “If you are willing, you can make me clean.”
(to be concluded tomorrow)
Today’s reading: 2 Samuel 14:1-24

WORKING OUT AN ALTERNATIVE

In this uncommon race that we have enlisted in, if you rest prematurely, or take your eyes off the daystar we are following, you will be distracted. Another thing that can divert your attention is opening your mouth prematurely to reveal your secret to ‘sympathetic friends’. Never share a testimony until it is...More

THE BLESSING OF THANKSGIVING

Thanksgiving to God, especially for gifts and blessings received, is required and expected. God abhors ungrateful people. God expects Christians to give thanks in all circumstances they are confronted with. In 1 Thessalonians 5:18, Apostle Paul wrote:
“In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of...More
