The message in a bottle

I will lift up my eyes to the hills - from whence comes my help? My help comes from the LORD, who made heaven and earth.
Psalm 121:1.2

The message in a bottle
A girl threw a bottle into the sea on the north-west coast of England containing a note with her name and address. She hoped that it would be washed up on land and be found. What a surprise she had six months later, when she received a letter from a boy in Australia who had found the bottle on a beach there, right on the other side of the globe!

It used to be the custom for shipwrecked people stranded on some desolate island to seek help by means of a message in a bottle. Their desperate situation led them to send a call for help into the unknown without knowing whether it would arrive anywhere and find a response.

Many people send similar desperate calls for help to an indefinite destination - to a God whom they do not know or to some kindly power. Today's verse from the Bible encourages us to seek help, not from anywhere but from the one true God "who made heaven and earth".

We can add: that God has revealed Himself in His Son Jesus Christ, so that we can know Him.

If you read of Him in the New Testament, you will quickly discover that this God is not far away from us. He is near; He hears us and will help. We can trust Him and express our wishes personally and frankly.

Today's reading: 1 Chronicles 29:1-9 · 1 Timothy 4:7-16

CAN SATAN RIGHTLY ACCUSE YOU?

Besides discouragement, another weapon Satan uses often against believers is their weaknesses. He simply studies an individual for a period of time and not long after, he identifies the fellow's weakness and capitalizes on it. Take for instance Peter. Satan discovered that Peter is a cowardly person-lacking in...More

SPIRITUAL WARFARE I

When we are told to put on the whole armour of God, one thing becomes clear instantly. This is the fact that there is a God. We cannot be talking of the armour of God if there is no God. Anyone who thinks that there is no God is a fool (Psalm 14:1). You have to pray that God would reveal Himself to you. The...More

SATAN INTIMIDATES

When Goliath came to the battlefield, he took the form of a big problem but he later became a big opportunity. He came as a mighty obstacle but turned into a mighty door of opportunity when God stepped in. Every giant who stands in your way this season shall become a door to your breakthrough in Jesus' Name. The...More
