This will be the sign to you: you will find a babe wrapped in swaddling cloths, lying in a manger.
Luke 2:12

What a remarkable sign it was, by which the shepherds of Bethlehem were to recognise the newborn Saviour! We should normally expect something much more impressive than this humble state to welcome an important person. But the Son of God, Israel's expected Messiah and future King, entered this world in far from majestic conditions, despite the fact that, in such lowliness, He was the one who upheld "all things by the word of his power" (Hebrews 1:3).

The Son of God could have appeared among men as an adult without going through the process of birth, but then the mystery of His humble incarnation would not have been so obvious. Had not the prophet Isaiah proclaimed: ‘"Unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given"? (ch.9, v.5) Moreover, our Saviour wished to experience the circumstances of life, as we know them, in order to understand and help us (cf. Hebrews 2:17.18).

The angels broke out in jubilation as they announced the most wonderful news ever made known in the world: "There is born to you this day in the city of David a Saviour who is Christ the Lord" (Luke 2:11). And their exaltation reveals worship ("Glory to God in the highest"), a prophecy ("On earth peace"), and a pleasing message ("Goodwill toward men").

The shepherds journeyed to Bethlehem, found the Child and glorified and praised God (vv. 16 & 20). We can joyfully and gratefully join in their praise.

BROKENNESS

In your relationship with God, one place you need to get to is the place of brokenness. To be broken is to have some form of injury that makes the object less than a whole. In spiritual parlance, it is to break or subdue the flesh in order to be more profitable to the kingdom of God. Why do you need to be broken?...More

DELIVERANCE: DIVINE ASSURANCE

When God speaks, that settles it. He reigns forever. When He gives a decree, it is forever. When He says "surely", it means surely. When He says surely, it will be well with me, nobody can change it. He says surely, by His stripes I am healed, and nobody can change this. He says surely, everything I do shall...More
