What makes our faults to be a burden for us?

As far as the east is from the west, so far has he removed our transgressions from us.
Psalm 103: 12.

What makes our faults to be a burden for us? Can't we simply ignore them, and the matter is done with? That will not succeed. Some time we shall remember, and they will again begin to trouble us. What causes that? The fact that we did not rid ourselves of them properly! So they raise their ugly head once again and become a troublesome force.
Consider this comparison: aren't we all afraid of nuclear radiation. People have been trying to dispose of radioactive material for decades, but no suitable permanent site has yet been found or decided. Research has merely demonstrated how difficult it is to prevent dangerous, contaminated radiation from escaping.

So it is also with our sins. We may try to conceal or forget them, or deliberately put them out of our mind, but we cannot annihilate either the sins themselves or their troublesome effects and consequences. How thankful we can be that God has a solution for us! He wishes to remove them as far as the east is from the west - infinitely far and finally! How does he do it? With reverence we can maintain that God has His means of disposing of them. He forgives us, if we frankly confess them.

When God forgives sins, He can only do so righteously. In His solution we see how perfectly God's unbribable justice and His inconceivable love are linked. Jesus Christ underwent the just punishment of sinners on the cross. Now God can forgive all who, believing on Christ, confess their sins before Him.

Today‘s reading: Numbers 5: 1 - 31 · Matthew 5: 1 - 12
