Who is God, “and what is his Son’s name?”...

God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through
him might be saved.

John 3: 17.

Who is God, “and what is his Son’s name?” (Proverbs 30:4). God has a Son, and, as the quotation from the book of Proverbs shows, even the oldest people in the Bible suspected that it was so. That Son was sent to us by God. Is it possible to send a son who doesn’t exist? Isn’t that an indication that the Son of God is eternal like God Himself?

Already before His birth God had decided on His Name: Jesus! And that Name, which means “the Lord is salvation” describes God’s purpose: He wishes to save. This message re-occurs constantly as the subject of the leaves of this calendar.

Conceived by the Holy Spirit, Jesus was the Son of God even as a Man on earth (cf. Matthew 1:20; Luke 1:35). Even when He was a child, people sought to kill Him. Holy Scripture tells us ittle about His youth. But at the age of thirty He began His work, a service for God and for mankind.

The unique thing about His Person is: through His Word and His selfless life we know what God is like. Let us compare our own life and our best intentions with all that He did. We shall realise that they are worlds apart.

Finally, the Son of God who became Man was sentenced to death by His creatures. He died on the cross outside the gates of the city of Jerusalem.

Yet on the basis of that death God offers redemption to everyone who believes, and He still shows patience towards a world that is ripe for judgment.

Today‘s reading: Numbers 15: 1 – 21 · Matthew 10: 16 – 31

WAIT FOR YOUR HARVEST II

I learnt a valuable lesson some years ago. When the crowd of participants at our monthly Holy Ghost service began to increase, I decided to select seven elders to help in the area of ministering to people. I gave each of them neckties that I used during previous ministrations. “Put on these neckties; they are...More

HOW CAN you learn to be guided by the Lord? In three different ways: 1) Through prayer. Thomas Kelly wrote: ‘There’s a way of ordering our mental life on more than one level at once. On one level we may be thinking,...More
