We ourselves were also once foolish, disobedient, deceived, serving various lusts and pleasures, living in malice and envy, hateful and hating one another. But when the kindness and the love of God toward man appeared, not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, through the washing of regeneration and renewing of the Holy Spirit.
Titus 3: 3 - 5.

In the 19th century the pioneer missionary, Robert Moffat, spent five decades working in South Africa among the Bechuana tribe by the Orange River. His abilities as a farmer, gardener, carpenter and smith afforded him the respect of the native population. His main concern was, however, to bring them the message of Jesus Christ. For this purpose he translated the Bible into the tribal language.

One day a native came to Moffat, saying, "Massa, I'd like to ask you a question. Did the people who wrote the New Testament know our tribe? We've talked about it in our villages, and many think so." - "What makes you think so?" Moffat inquired. "Well, you see, Massa," the man explained, "we think they must have known us, because all the evil that we have in our hearts is mentioned in this book."

During that time many of the Bechuanas acquired a much better insight into themselves, but also knowledge of the Saviour-God. Through faith in Christ they were saved and experienced a thorough renewal of their life.

"If anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; .
