Sowing – but for whom?

Do not be deceived, God is not mocked; for whatever a man sows, that he will also reap. For he who sows to his flesh will of the flesh reap corruption, but he who sows to the Spirit will of the Spirit reap everlasting life.
Galatians 6: 7.8.

Sowing - but for whom?
The verses quoted show two ways of sowing: do we sow to the Spirit, to live for God's glory, or just to satisfy our evil desires, which the Bible calls "the flesh"?

Christian friends, when we succumb to an envious look or tolerate unhealthy thoughts or deeds, or when we watch a film with filthy pictures (and there are few that have none), we sow to the flesh. Such thoughts and deeds take root in us, grow and yield a harvest of corruption, defiling our hearts, if we fail to confess them before the Lord.

Let us not be overcome! We cannot alter our evil past, but we can confess it before God who forgives and henceforth apply ourselves to sowing for the Spirit. Every decision taken, every action carried out, every conversation held in the Lord's interests bears fruit for eternal life.

To sow for the Spirit, let us learn to abide in God's presence by faith and honour Him in our entire life. Let us take the time to cultivate our relationship with the Lord by reading the Bible and praying to God, witnessing for Christ and doing good to others. God calls on each one to serve the Lord Jesus by serving our brothers and sister and our neighbour through the help of the Holy Spirit. That is the secret of liberty and joy.

(to be concluded next Wednesday)

Today‘s reading: Deuteronomy 21: 10 - 23 · Galatians 1: 1 - 9
