“Dead indeed to sin”

Our old man was crucified with him, that the body of sin might be done away with, that we should no longer be slaves of sin.

Reckon yourselves to be dead indeed to sin, but alive to God in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Romans 6: 6.11.

"Dead indeed to sin"
Everybody has sin within him from birth. This evil desire is the source of all our sinful thoughts, words and deeds. This has serious consequences: from the outset all stand before God as sinners, having no power to resist the wicked demands that sin makes upon them.

Upon conversion a fundamental change takes place, however. Everyone who believes in Jesus Christ has died to sin. God sees the Redeemer's death as availing for the converted and considers them as being dead to sin. This is effective in three ways:

Our old man has been crucified. The "old man" is what someone was before conversion, when he was dominated by sin. As believers we now know that our old man was condemned at Calvary. We are therefore now in a new position before God: no longer sinners but justified persons.
The body of sin has been done away with. By "the body of sin" is meant bondage to the evil desire to sin. Before our conversion we sinned with our human body. We could not do otherwise. But the compulsion to sin has now been vanquished. Because we have died to sin, it has lost its dominance over us.
We no longer serve sin. This is the character of life after conversion. As believers we are able to resist giving way to the demands of that sinful desire and to live to honour and glorify God.

Today‘s reading: Deuteronomy 32: 34 - 52 · Ephesians 2: 11 - 16

THE HOLY SPIRIT

It is possible to connect with the Holy Spirit and to continue to flow in the power of the anointing even at increasing levels. If this is your desire,...More

TOUCH NOT

In today's Bible reading, while David and his men were away, the Amalekites invaded Ziklag, defeated the city and set it on fire, after which they took members of their families - wives, sons and daughters as captives. When they returned and saw the situation of Ziklag, David and his men were really distressed,...More
