On a beautiful summer’s day a hiker set out alone on a tour in the...

I cried out to the LORD because of my affliction, and he answered me.

God may speak in one way, or in another, yet man does not perceive it.

Jonah 2: 2; Job 33: 14.

On a beautiful summer's day a hiker set out alone on a tour in the French Alps. He planned to go to a small village at the foot of steep rocks on the other side of the mountain. His wife would wait there with the car at the time he estimated he would arrive. But he failed to turn up. Night fell, but no-one came. Next morning a rescue operation was started. A helicopter flew low over the barren, rugged area without success. Days and nights passed.

Finally someone heard faint cries for help at the foot of a scree slope, where the poor man had landed up. He was rescued totally exhausted, tortured by thirst, but alive.

He recovered slowly and was able to report his dramatic adventure. Shortly after starting out he had lost his way and panicked. "I prayed the Lord's Prayer reverently again and again, that prayer that Jesus taught His disciples. And God in His mercy answered me."

We do not know whether the hiker had a personal living relationship with God, nor whether that dramatic experience led to him coming to know God truly as the One who not only rescued him physically but wished to save his soul. Through such occurrences God sometimes reminds us of His existence.

Unfortunately, many people forget His beneficial intervention as soon as the danger has passed. But no-one should fail to hear God's voice.

Today‘s reading: 2 Samuel 16: 5 - 23 · 2 Samuel 3: 1 - 5

CAN SATAN RIGHTLY ACCUSE YOU?

Besides discouragement, another weapon Satan uses often against believers is their weaknesses. He simply studies an individual for a period of time and not long after, he identifies the fellow's weakness and capitalizes on it. Take for instance Peter. Satan discovered that Peter is a cowardly person-lacking in...More

DON'T KILL YOURSELF FOR NOTHING

Do hope you are learning from our meditations through Psalm 73. It pictures to us the reality of everyday living. I do hope you are realizing that after all there is no point envying the prosperous wicked. Do not kill yourself for nothing. You have your life to live. Do not be a puppet dancing the...More

Hudson Taylor...

John 19:30

The parents of Hudson Taylor (1832-1905), the well-known missionary in China, were believers. From their example, he noticed early in life how helpful prayer and the Bible are.
His parents' exemplary life impressed him, and he endeavoured to be as good a Christian as they were....More
