These moving words are the language of Jerusalem, the city that...

Is it nothing to you, all you who pass by? Behold and see if there is any sorrow like my sorrow, which has been brought on me, which the LORD has inflicted in the day of his fierce anger.
Lamentations 1: 12.

These moving words are the language of Jerusalem, the city that at that time had to suffer bitterly the consequences of unfaithfulness towards God. Prophetically, something of the gravity of the future judgment is recognisable, by which God will lead His people Israel into the blessings of the millennium. And, as so often in the Old Testament, we can see the application to the Lord Jesus, who in His life experienced much of the suffering of His people both during and ahead of His time.

Can anyone read today’s verse without thinking of the cross of Christ? Hanging there, He asks this question, expecting an answer. He does not seek applause. He asks it, because your eternal destiny depends on the answer you give. Are you merely a spectator passing by who will forget what you have witnessed? If you see Him only as a martyr, you are mistaken! With your sins and wrongdoings, you sent Him there And it was His love towards you that kept Him there.

There have been many sufferers in this world, men like Job, Joseph and Jeremiah. Physical or mental suffering is actually the result of sin entering the world. But there on the cross He was not suffering for any wrong that He had done. He was the only sinless Person who ever lived. And He was suffering not only from men’s hatred, but under God’s judgment as the sin-bearer. He suffered there for others. It was not His own guilt, but infinite devotion that caused Him to suffer such a painful ordeal.

Today‘s reading: 1 Kings 1: 38 – 53 · John 4: 1 – 14

In the hope of eternal life, which God, who cannot lie, promised before the ages of time, but has manifested in its own due season His word.
(Titus 1:2-3)

TURNING WEAKNESSES INTO BLESSINGS

Our God is a God of miracles. He moves in mysterious ways and He still calls people to His side today. Many people have the call of God on their life but do not know. Some people believe they are too weak to be used of God, while some others, who are already in a position of service, are facing frustration or even...More

A BURNT SACRIFICE

Leviticus 1:9; 3:5; Romans 12:1-2

Today, we shall round up our meditations on the exemplary testimony given by Jesus about John the Baptist as a burning and shining light. John's life exemplified a life laid before the
altar of sacrifice, “And the same John had his raiment of camel's...More
