At about 1 o’clock on the 24th August 79 A.D. the volcano Vesuvius erupted...

Remember how short my time is; for what futility have you created all the children of men? What man can live and not see death?
Psalm 89: 47.48.

At about 1 o'clock on the 24th August 79 A.D. the volcano Vesuvius erupted, and all became dark in Pompeii. For the next four days ash and pumice poured down, until the town lay buried under a five metre covering. Whoever could not escape in time lost his life. Human beings and animals were literally "baked" by volcanic ash.

In the course of time corruption caused cavities to develop, which are now being filled with plaster to obtain plastic moulds of the dead. Archaeologists are repeatedly moved by sights like a chained dog or a mother protecting her daughter in a garden. Elsewhere there were a man bending over his pregnant wife, a newborn baby in nappies and slaves in shackles and unable to flee.

All died, yet under the covering of volcanic matter the drama of their death only now becomes visible and comprehensible. It happened almost 2,000 years ago, but suddenly we are in the picture.

Only those who escaped saved their lives. Whoever remained behind had to die. It will be similar when Jesus Christ comes. He will take those who have believed in Him to be with Him in heaven. Those who have rejected Him will remain behind to be eternally lost.

In this way the excavations at Pompeii warn us to flee from the coming catastrophe and find safety. God still calls: .

UNCOVERING EVIL

The presence of the supernatural power of God in a church can take that church beyond limits.
It can also uproot the presence of evil in the midst of Gods children. In Acts 5, a couple were uprooted through this. If we are going to sanitise the church, we need the Holy Spirit. Just as we need Him to heal, save...More

And the angel of the LORD appeared unto the woman, and said unto her, Behold now, thou art barren, and bearest not: but thou shalt conceive, and bear a son. Now therefore beware, I pray thee, and drink not wine nor strong drink, and eat not any unclean thing: For, lo, thou shalt conceive, and bear a son; ...More

THE NON-LYING GOD (2)

In the hope of eternal life, which God, who cannot lie, promised before the ages of time, but has manifested in its own due season His word.
(Titus 1:2-3)

THE NON-LYING GOD (2)
I can lie. Titus could too, and so could the Cretans. But God can not lie. I can deceive. But...More
