The Lord Jesus took three disciples up that mountain to...

After six days Jesus took Peter, James, and John his brother, led them up on a high mountain by themselves, and he was transfigured before them.
Matthew 17: 1.2.

The Lord Jesus took three disciples up that mountain to reveal His glory before them.

He took Peter with Him, that disciple who was impulsive, active, a leader who was an example to the others in his zeal, but who also occasionally proved to be too self-assured.

He also took John, who was a temperamental, yet sensitive disciple. The Lord called him and his brother James . John enjoyed the Lord Jesus' love as did no other disciple. He was well acquainted with the Lord.

He took James, too, who had a similar character to John, but rarely stood out through his actions or words. He was clearly not a speaker or man of action like Peter, and showed his love of the Lord in a quieter manner. But this became evident when he died for His Lord as a martyr.

They were three different men, each with his personal relationship to the Lord, who loved and cherished them all. He did not reveal His glory to only one of them. He was aware of their idiosyncracies and knew fully well what lay ahead for each one of them.

Among us Christians today there are also those who are temperamental, sensitive and quiet. With the Lord Jesus and in His service there is no levelling down or up. Each one, in his own way, is valuable to Him. The Lord reveals His glory to us individually and uses us in His service according to our ability. Let us put ourselves at His service with all that we have and are.

Today‘s reading: 1 Kings 14: 1 - 20 · John 10: 7 - 21

When You Have A Vision

I was not disobedient to the vision.' Acts 26:19 NIV

When God gives you a vision for your life, you need to know how to:

(1) Hold it. Your vision is governed by a time frame: If it seems slow in coming, wait patiently, for it will surely take place.' (Habakkuk 2:3 NLT) Some of us can...More

Thoughts on the Gospel of John (113)

He who loves his life will lose it, and he who hates his life in this world will keep it for eternal life. If anyone serves me, let him follow me; and where I am, there my servant will be also. If anyone serves me, him my Father will honour.
John 12:25.26.
