The place of refuge

God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.

To you, o my strength, I will sing praises; for God is my defence, my God of mercy.

Psalm 46: 1; 59: 17.

The place of refuge
The press reported a tragic occurrence: In the Mont Blanc massif four alpinists were overtaken by a violent storm at a height of about 13,000 feet, Struggling against the storm and the cold, they tried desperately to reach the Goûter hut 300 feet below them. Only two of the men managed to get so far totally exhausted. The others were later found dead under a thick layer of snow.

What do we do when troubled by storms like illness, anxiety, unemployment or separation in our lives? Where do we seek help? Do we take refuge in alcohol or drugs, or frantically undertake leisure activities so as to forget? Later we find ourselves back where we were, confronted with the reality, and the trouble is still there.

This is where we can find genuine help: God suggests that we take refuge in Him. Both we ourselves and the circumstances of our life are in His hand. And God has still constantly shown mercy to desperate men and women when they prayed to Him. Trusting in Him, they received the strength to face up to the unpleasantness. They discovered sense in their muddled life and fresh, sure hope for the future.

Are you at your wits' end in your distress? Turn to God! Confide in Him unreservedly, and let Him takes things in hand. He knows your situation and will grant you peace - peace with God and peace in your circumstances.

Today‘s reading: 1 Kings 15: 25 - 16: 7 · John 11: 1 - 16

FASTING IS NECESSARY

To relate with the Holy Spirit, you must be holy. You must also exercise a living faith, pray and fast. Some people will tell you that because had finished the work of salvation, there is no need to fast. To them, fasting is completely needless and is some form of self-inflicted punishment. But they forget that...More

ATTENTIVE TO THE MASTER'S INSTRUCTIONS?

It is always good to pay close attention to instructions given by someone you claim to be your guide or guardian. Often, we miss many opportunities, breakthroughs and victories because we fail to see the details of the instructions given to us on a subject. A multinational company once held a promotional exam for...More
