Since he retired Claude has been at markets regularly, offering Bibles and Christian literature. While he was erecting his stand one morning, his neighbour, who sold clothes there, seemed to be very angry. In the course of the morning he went over to the Bible stand several times to express his dislike of the Christian faith in no uncertain terms.

At the end of the day, when most stallholders had already departed, he approached Claude to give vent to his annoyance: "You have no right to be here! If you come again, I'll burn all your junk!" Claude simply answered, "I'm here to tell you that God loves you just as you are."

The following week everyone was back with his stall. The mood was tense, but the market went off without any serious incident. Weeks passed. Claude didn't see the stallholder any more. Then one day he was back. He came across, "Please excuse my behaviour at our first meeting. I was still a bad lad then, full of wicked thoughts concerning God. But He has found me since and saved me. Now I belong to Jesus, you see?

If the message of the Bible annoys us, especially when it speaks of sin or the coming judgment, we should stop and think. It is a sign that things are not right with God.

How can our hostility give way to peace with God? By confessing the sins of our life to Him, in order to receive His full forgiveness. God offers it to us because Jesus has .
