The year 2021 is rapidly coming to an end, and with it, many...

The LORD said to my Lord, Sit at my right hand, till I make your enemies your footstool. The LORD shall send the rod of your strength out of Zion. Rule in the midst of your enemies!
Psalm 110: 1.2.

The year 2021 is rapidly coming to an end, and with it, many pointers to Jesus Christ, the Son of God. No calendar year can aptly describe Him, the central theme of the Bible. Because He is the centre of the universe and of God’s plan of salvation; all that happens in the world has to do with Him.

Let us cast a glance at the future. In Psalm 110 the Lord God speaks prophetically to the resurrected Christ, David’s Lord. He has appointed Him who died and rose again the place of honour at His right hand. Christ will eventually reign on earth in power and glory. Philippians 2: 9 – 11 says of Him: “God also has highly exalted him and given him the name that is above every name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow … and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.”

Jesus Christ is coming again! First, only for those who believe in Him and have recognised Him as the Lord over their life. They will be taken to heaven (cf. 1 Thessalonians 4: 13 – 18).

After that no-one who has rejected Christ or remained indifferent can be saved. There is no second chance in the life beyond the grave: “He who believes in the Son has everlasting life; and he who does not believe the Son shall not see life, but the wrath of God abides on him” (John 3: 36). Christ will finally reign on the earth and judge all His enemies.

For this reason God constantly directs our attention to Christ and His grace during our lifetime with great patience.

Today‘s reading: Ezekiel 48: 20 – 35 · Psalms 150: 1 – 6

It may be that Jehovah will look on mine affliction, and that Jehovah will requite me good for my being cursed this day. And David and his men went by the way; and Shimei went along on the hill’s side over against him, and cursed as he went, and threw stones at him, and cast dust.

THE DAY OF FAVOUR

Queen Esther found favour in the sight of the king and she was promised blessings up to one half of the kingdom. There are lots of lessons in the passage before us. First of these is that the king’s eyes located Esther. 1 Samuel 16:11-13 tells us how favour located David while he was watching over the flock of...More
