According to human standards God’s message, the gospel, would be...

We preach Christ crucified, to the Greeks foolishness, but to those who are called Christ, the power of God and the wisdom of God.
1 Corinthians 1:23.24.

According to human standards God's message, the gospel, would be doomed to failure.

It is a message that speaks of weakness: an itinerant preacher announced it for three and a half years 2,000 years ago and was then crucified in weakness (cf. 2 Corinthians 13:4). Indeed, the message of the cross means nothing but "foolishness" to many (1 Corinthians 1:18).

Those who made it known were weaklings: they were unknown, inconspicuous persons who reflected the apostle Paul's words: "I was with you in weakness, in fear, and in much trembling. And my speech and my preaching were not with persuasive words (1 Corinthians 2:3.4).

Those who received it were weak: they were not the cream of society, but often the overlooked and outcasts. The apostle Paul described them thus: "not many wise, not many mighty, not many noble, but the foolish things, the weak things, the base things of the world and the things which are despised" (1 Corinthians 1:26.27).

This was God's chosen way and He has not changed it in 2022. He still wants to save people "through the foolishness of the message, so that their "faith should not be in the wisdom of men but in the power of God" and "no flesh should glory in his presence" (1 Corinthians 2:5; 1:29).

Are there people today who will not allow themselves to be held back by these basic conditions, but will hear, read, examine and accept God's message, and so experience the power of God in their own lives?

Today's reading: Hosea 13:1-16 · Proverbs 1:1-7

However, there was only one person, spiritually speaking, who was a true Nazarite, and that was our Lord Jesus. He shows us that it is not a negative thing to be separated from the world but rather a...More

Adam found an excuse:

Jeremiah 17:9

In a discussion on the above text with some young people, the question was asked: how are we to understand the word "deceitful" here? After some consideration they reached this conclusion: deceitful means that the heart finds an excuse for everything. This seems a very apt...More
