“Jesus, have mercy on me!” (5)

Jesus answered and said to him, What do you want me to do for you? The blind man said to him, Rabboni, that I may receive my sight.
Mark 10:51.

"Jesus, have mercy on me!" (5)
Bartimæus was now standing in front of Jesus, waiting for the Saviour's response to his call. Jesus had heard him and had him brought before Him. The blind man now had to wait and see how He would react to his plea for his sight.

Jesus did not heal him immediately. Bartimæus had asked for mercy. The Lord Jesus wanted him to be more specific despite His knowledge of the man's condition. Therefore He asked, "What do you want me to do for you?" When Jesus Christ comes into contact with individuals, the way He deals with them always corresponds to their personal requirement.

Bartimæus did not hesitate to state precisely what his need was. He was confident that the Son of David, the promised Messiah, could grant his wish; he had clearly heard of previous miracles of healings that the Lord had performed and trusted His omnipotence.

Whatever others might have thought about the possibility of Bartimæus receiving his sight mattered little to the blind man himself. He longed for his handicap to be removed.

This incident should encourage anyone who is aware of the sinful burden he bears to appeal to Jesus, the Son of God, who . He did not disappoint Bartimæus, and He will not disappoint anyone who is sincerely repentant.

(to be concluded on Friday)

Today's reading: Nehemiah 9:5-25 · Proverbs 15:1-11
