The son I lost

God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have everlasting life.

He who did not spare his own Son but delivered him up for us all, how shall he not with him also freely give us all things?

John 3:16; Romans 8:32.

The son I lost
There were two trials in court that morning: first of all a thick, incriminating dossier on an accident that cost the life of a 23-year-old young man. Then a young delinquent of the age of 23, a habitual thief, was brought before the judge. He explained that he had been brought up in a home for unwanted children, and that he had no-one and nowhere to go to when he came out of prison. While the court retired to deliberate the case, the mother of the young man killed in the accident went up to him and said, "I have lost a son of your age: When you come out of prison, if you want to, come home. I'll give my address to your counsel for the defence." At this touching invitation the young man could not hold back his emotion. "Thank you, madam," he murmured. Perhaps it was the first time anyone had shown him any love and interest.

This fine example is a reminder of what God has done. He sent His Son to become Man in order to die in our stead.

"In this is love, not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son to be the propitiation for our sins" (1 John 4:10).

"God demonstrates his own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8).

Today's reading: Micah 2:1-13 · Proverbs 28:1-10

FALSE PROPHETS AND THEIR PROPHECIES-FOOLISH PROPHETS

The word of Jehovah came unto me, saying: Son of man, prophesy against the prophets of Israel that prophesy, and say unto them that prophesy out of their own heart, Hear ye the word of Jehovah. Thus saith the Lord Jehovah: Woe unto the foolish prophets, that follow after their own spirit, and have seen nothing!...More

EVERYONE NEEDS A MIRACLE

Some years ago, I was invited to be the guest speaker at a garden party in an exclusive, highbrow residential area. Because I arrived at the venue quite early, I was made to sit for a while in the house of my host. The house was an exquisite parade of wealth and splendour. I had never seen such brazen display of...More

FOR CHRIST'S SAKE DON'T!

A negative change is generally abhorred by men. Everyone craves progress. We always desire to keep ascending the ladder of success. No one wants to make a u-turn in the journey of greatness. The greatest journey whose end has the greatest significance is the journey to Heaven. This journey is only made in Jesus...More
