True greatness

Our Lord Jesus Christ, though he was rich, yet for your sakes he became poor, that you through his poverty might become rich.

The Son of God loved me and gave himself for me.

2 Corinthians 8:9; Galatians 2:20.

True greatness
Some years ago a humanitarian charity made contact with a former president of the United States, requesting that he should undertake certain responsibilities for them. He accepted their offer, but to their surprise stated that he would prefer manual work to an important post on the committee. That man, who had governed one of the biggest countries in the world, joined a team of masons. He wore a workman's overall to assist on a building site. In the daytime he handled hammer and trowel, and at night he slept with the others in the crypt of a church. Through his modesty and humility he showed, as the Lord Jesus had done, that true greatness does not lie in one's official function, but in one's attitude towards one's neighbour.

Such devotedness is but a feeble illustration of what the Lord Jesus did in coming to earth to partake of our own condition. Despite being God, He became Man and humbled Himself in order to obey His Father even to the point of death on the cross (Philippians 2:8). Jesus manifested God's love towards us in perfection. That love is there for all in the entire world, for the Bible states: "God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have everlasting life" (John 3:16).

Come to Jesus! His love for you was such that He was prepared to die for you.

Today's reading: Micah 7:1-20 · Proverbs 29:20-27

Jesus says to her, Mary. She, turning around, ...

Jesus says to her, Mary. She, turning around, says to Him in Hebrew, Rabboni, which means Teacher. Jesus says to her, Touch Me not, for I have not yet ascended to My Father; but go to My brethren and say to them, I ascend to My Father and your Father, and to My God and your God.

We have not a high priest not able to sympathize with our infirmities, but tempted in all things in like manner, sin apart.

PROVOKING POSITIVE CHANGE

Change is one event that is constant in life. Change denotes movement from one state to another. There are two categories of change: positive and negative. Due to the fact that change can either be positive or negative, Africans would say: "Change is good for the poor but bad for the rich". Change in life is...More
