Today’s reading: Isaiah ch. 36

Now Peter continued knocking, and when they opened the door and saw him, they were astonished. But motioning to them with his hand to keep silent ,he declared to them how the Lord has brought him out of the prison. And he said, Go, tell these things to James and to the brethren. And he departed and went to another place.
Then as soon as it was day, there was no small stir among the soldiers about what had become of Peter. But when Herod had searched for him and not found him, he examined the guards and commanded that they should be put to death. And he went down from Judea to Caesarea, and stayed there….

Acts 12,16-19

Thoughts on the Book of Acts(102)
The prison gate had opened unexpectedly for Peter. Equally unexpectedly, the door of the Christians' house remained closed at first. The disciples simply could not believe that the apostle was free
An angel of the Lord had brought him out. Peter no doubt told them so, but he drew their attention not to the Lord’s messenger, but to the Lord Himself, for he reported ”how the Lord had brought him out of the prison”. Even today it is important for believers to set their sight on the Lord Himself, not on his messengers or servants.
Peter left the city the same night. He asked that the other believers, the “brethren” should be told what had happened, naming James, the Lord Jesus' brother, particularly who was not one of the twelve apostles but was becoming more and more a “pillar” in the church in Jerusalem.
Only next morning was Peter’s escape from prison discovered. The guards had to face the severest punishment.
(to be continued next Sunday)

It may be that Jehovah will look on mine affliction, and that Jehovah will requite me good for my being cursed this day. And David and his men went by the way; and Shimei went along on the hill’s side over against him, and cursed as he went, and threw stones at him, and cast dust.

ARE YOU FRUITFUL?

The words “Be fruitful,” appear in the Bible for the first time in Genesis 1:28. Although it came as a commandment, it can also be taken as a blessing. Because it is a commandment, God expects all His creation to comply with it by bearing fruit and multiplying through self-reproduction. On the other hand, if...More
