It was dark, but the barrier tempted them and was easy to overcome. So...

There is born to you this day in the city of David a Saviour, who is Christ the Lord.
Luke 2:11.

It was dark, but the barrier tempted them and was easy to overcome. So the two youths set about exploring the abandoned building site. Then one of them stumbled but held on to his companion and pulled him down with him into the soft mud of the excavated pit.

In his panic the one shouted to the other, "Help me! Get me out of this! I'm up to my knees in this muck!" But the other one snorted, "You fool! I'm stuck just as much as you!" Neither of them could get free; so they had to shout for help until someone woke up in a neighbouring house and called the police, who rescued them with ropes. Help had to come from elsewhere - they couldn't rescue each other.

Everyone has sinned and is therefore stuck in the mire of sin. Whether he is a scientist, artist, doctor or even a priest, he cannot save himself. Everyone is infected by sin and has his own particular trouble. If anyone is to save us, he must himself be free of our sinful nature; he can't be one of us in our lost state.

Jesus Christ came down from heaven. Conceived by the Holy Spirit, He was born of Mary. 700 years previously the prophet Isaiah had announced: "Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a son" (ch. 7:14), while the prophet Micah named the place: Bethlehem (ch. 5:1). An angel had informed Joseph, Mary's husband, about the Child in a dream (Matthew 1:20). No-one else's birth has ever been prophesied and announced in such a remarkable way as that of Jesus Christ. He came to be our Saviour.

Today's reading: Genesis 32:22-32 · Psalms 19:1-7

CONDESCEND!

After seeing their plight, hearing their cries and feeling their pains, God came down to rescue the Israelites from Egypt. Our God is a mobile God. He comes down to deliver His own. As high as God is and even though He has His throne in Heaven, yet He condescends to meet the needs of His children on earth (Isaiah...More

DIVINE CHAMPION 2

Yesterday we discovered that our Lord Jesus Christ is the number one champion and that He makes His people champions. We also saw that a divine champion is a person raised up and supported by God.

One attribute of a champion is strength. The divine champion is one who receives divine strengthening....More

EX-CHAMPION?

Although it is an unpleasant experience to be a defeated contender, becoming an ex-champion is a much more grievous experience. When you are not yet a champion, only a few people pay attention to you. But by the time you become a champion, you will be on the radar of many people, including your enemies. A champion has...More
