Thoughts on the Gospel of John (52)

Then Jesus spoke to them again, saying, I am the light of the world. He who follows me shall not walk in darkness, but have the light of life. The Pharisees therefore said to him, You bear witness of yourself; your witness is not true. Jesus answered and said to them, Even if I bear witness of myself, my witness is true, for I know where I came from and where I am going, but you do not know where I come from and where I am going.
John 8:12-14.

Thoughts on the Gospel of John (52)
The Pharisees had caught a woman in the act of adultery and taken her to Jesus. In their hypocritical self-righteousness they demanded the most severe punishment: death. In the dispute with them Jesus revealed Himself as the light of the world. In His presence all is revealed - not only men's deeds, but also their thoughts and motives. Simultaneously, God's glory was visible in righteousness and grace.

Most people feel divine light to be unbearable. They prefer hiding in the dark, because their deeds are evil. All who follow Jesus, however, know what blessing is connected with this light, not merely momentarily, for they have light and life in themselves. Christ is the source of this light, which is called "the light of life".

The Pharisees sensed that they had no part in this blessing. With their pride offended, they opposed the Lord, quoting His own words (John 5:31). They refused to accept that He is the Son of God. Regarding Him as a normal human being, they believed His witness to be untrue. It was as though they wanted proof that light was shining in broad daylight. The Lord knew what He was talking about: being the true God and eternal life" (1 John 5:20). He needed no further witness.

Know When To Say Nothing

The Sovereign Lord has given me a well-instructed tongue.' Isaiah 50:4 NIV

Isaiah writes: The Sovereign Lord has given me a well-instructed tongue, to know the word that sustains the weary. He wakens me morning by morning, wakens my ear to listen like one being instructed.'

Let's face it;...More
