Today's reading: Psalm 73

Looking for that blessed hope, and the glorious appearing of the great God and our Saviour Jesus Christ; Who gave himself for us, that he might redeem us from all iniquity, and purify unto himself a peculiar people, zealous of good works.
Titus 2:13-14

Religion or faith?
It has long been imagined that Christianity would make the world a more pleasant place to live in. Unfortunately, we are forced to admit that that has not been the case. The Christian religion has certainly been the source of much social progress. Most of our values like justice, solidarity, tolerance etc. result from our Christian inheritance which became secularised in the age of enlightenment. One thing is paradoxical however: while these values are recognised universally, Christianity is in a crisis. Churches are emptying.
Does that mean that the Christian message is outdated? Not at all! In all that characterises modern life (jungle law, the triumphant role of money, progressive inequality etc.) the Christian message remains astonishingly pertinent. The crisis in Christianity also enables us to distinguish between religion and true faith.
Let us be fully aware of the profound sense of the Christian message. Christ did not come to earth to help people to improve the world but to save them from eternal condemnation. Jesus is not an idealist but the Saviour of all who believe. He will, however, one day be the Judge of all who refuse to believe. As the Judge, He will be just and overlook nothing. As the Saviour, He can now forgive whoever repents and believes.

FALSE PROPHETS AND THEIR PROPHECIES-FOOLISH PROPHETS

The word of Jehovah came unto me, saying: Son of man, prophesy against the prophets of Israel that prophesy, and say unto them that prophesy out of their own heart, Hear ye the word of Jehovah. Thus saith the Lord Jehovah: Woe unto the foolish prophets, that follow after their own spirit, and have seen nothing!...More

EVERYONE NEEDS A MIRACLE

Some years ago, I was invited to be the guest speaker at a garden party in an exclusive, highbrow residential area. Because I arrived at the venue quite early, I was made to sit for a while in the house of my host. The house was an exquisite parade of wealth and splendour. I had never seen such brazen display of...More

FOR CHRIST'S SAKE DON'T!

A negative change is generally abhorred by men. Everyone craves progress. We always desire to keep ascending the ladder of success. No one wants to make a u-turn in the journey of greatness. The greatest journey whose end has the greatest significance is the journey to Heaven. This journey is only made in Jesus...More
