Thoughts on the Gospel of John (68)

I must work the works of him who sent me while it is day; the night is coming when no-one can work. As long as I am in the world, I am the light of the world. When he had said these things, he spat on the ground and made clay with the saliva; and he anointed the eyes of the blind man with the clay. And he said to him, Go, wash in the pool of Siloam (which is translated, Sent). So he went and washed, and came back seeing.
John 9:4-7.

Thoughts on the Gospel of John (68)
The man born blind gave the Lord the opportunity to carry out the works of God on him. In His love Jesus could not rest, so long as He was surrounded by people with dire needs. But when He left the world, it would be night, and no-one could continue His work.

Does no-one do the work of God today? In a certain sense, yes. Since the ascension of Jesus to heaven many have gone out into the whole world to preach the gospel. People are being called out of the world to receive eternal life and heavenly blessings, but eternal salvation does not free the world today from all suffering. That will not happen until the millennium, when "the night", during which Christ is rejected, has passed.

For the healing of the blind man the Lord prepared a special eye ointment. The saliva symbolised the Lord's effective power. The earth indicates that He Himself became Man. It is also significant that the pool where the healing took place was named "Sent!" This teaches us that if we grasp by faith the humble Man Jesus Christ, who is a Person of the Godhead sent by God to save and bless sinners, then light will enter our lives.

(to be continued next Sunday)

OFFENDED IN CHRIST?

The Christian race must be run with lots of patience or else it will be bungled midway. If you are inpatient with Gods timing, you will not only get into trouble but may not be able to finish the race. A good number of backsliders derailed from their heavenly track because of impatience. In Matthew 11:6 Jesus...More

Jehovah appeared to him by the oaks of Mamre. And...

Jehovah appeared to him by the oaks of Mamre. And he sat at the tent-door in the heat of the day. And he lifted up his eyes and saw, and behold, three men standing near him.

The spiritual elevation of Abraham in Genesis 18 and 19 is something very peculiar. He seems...More

THE HOLY SPIRIT

It is one thing to receive the anointing and another to keep growing on it. There are people who had the anointing, but today, everything has virtually ebbed out. It is possible to connect with the Holy Spirit and to continue to flow in the power of the anointing even at increasing levels. If this is your desire,...More

BEFORE YOU GET ANGRY

Yesterday we learnt it is not right for us to get angry with God or to take offence against Him, even if we experience the deferment of our hopes. The example of John the Baptist who earlier acknowledged Jesus as the Messiah, but later doubted Him because of his painful experience of incarceration is a warning...More
