At Christmas time a young boy was once asked by his teacher...

The desire of all nations shall come.

Behold, the virgin shall be with child, and bear a Son, and they shall call his name Immanuel, which is translated, God with us.
Haggai 2:7 (J.N.D.); Matthew 1:23.

At Christmas time a young boy was once asked by his teacher, "What would you like best of all for Christmas?" The boy thought of the framed picture at home with the photo of his father, whom he had loved so much and who was no longer there. Then he said quietly, "Most of all I would like my Daddy to come out of the frame and be with us again."

The boy had expressed in words people's deepest longing - a longing that we all have deep down within us, even if it is suppressed by other inclinations, wishes and aims. We yearn for security and peace, for a strong hand to help us out of our weakness and trouble.

For a long time people longed for God to step out of the frame of the unknown and meet us personally. And that actually happened some 2,000 years ago! God appeared in Jesus Christ. We are not alone in a cold, dead universe. We have not been left to unbending fate, nor to sheer chance, nor to nothing at all. We can see God before us, personally in Jesus Christ, who became Man like us. But, as a Man, He was sinless and could therefore become our Saviour. At Christmastide many people remember this: the Son of God came to earth to show us who God is and what He is like, and to lead us to Him.

Jesus said, "I am the way, the truth, and the life. No-one comes to the Father except through me (John 14:6).

(Mark 4:11)

The Lord Jesus told His disciples that they would be given an understanding in "the mystery of the kingdom of God." He also spoke of another class of people to whom everything would be spoken in parables; these He described as, "them who are without." How solemn that God should...More

Bear ye one another's burdens, and so fulfil the law of Christ.

Brethren, if a man be overtaken in a fault, ye which are spiritual, restore such an one in the spirit of meekness; considering thyself, lest thou also be tempted. Bear ye one another's burdens, and so fulfil the law of Christ.
(Galatians 6:1-2)
