Is God indifferent?

I have loved you, says the LORD. Yet you say, In what way have you loved us?

When we were still without strength, in due time Christ died for the ungodly.

Malachi 1:2; Romans 5:6.

Is God indifferent?
In view of current events numerous people wonder about God and His apparent lack of action. Can we really imagine that God is indifferent regarding our situation?

The God revealed in the Bible is entirely different from mankind, His creature. He is eternal and infinite, we are limited and mortal. God is perfect, holy and "of purer eyes than to behold evil" (Habakkuk 1:13). We human beings sometimes commit reprehensible deeds and have wicked thoughts.

That separates us from God, for evil is incompatible with His nature: "Your iniquities have separated you from your God" (Isaiah 59:2).

But God loves His creatures and wishes to have a relationship with each human being. His plan is to establish a fresh relationship with us.

As people are unable to come to God, He came down to them in the Person of Jesus Christ, who was God and Man. Jesus, the perfect Man, settled the matter of our sins in order to reconcile us with the holy, righteous God. He did so out of love, sacrificing His life to redeem us.

Is God indifferent then? The indifference is on man's side, for many refuse the salvation, eternal life, that God offers freely to all who accept Jesus as their Saviour.

"God desires all men to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth" (1 Timothy 2:5).

Today's reading: Exodus 5:1-14 · Luke 2:1-7
