The prospectus for the new monthly magazine promised the readers increased...

In my Father's house are many mansions; if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you.
John 14:2.

The prospectus for the new monthly magazine promised the readers increased comfort in their own home. New, up-to-date ideas would help to make our home nicer and cosier. I thought, "But what about those who have no home of their own, or couldn't afford improvements owing to worries about unemployment? Or what about those who are under the poverty level? For them the magazine is worthless."

The others, who can afford a home that is well looked after, are the target of the advertisement. I have nothing against external comfort, but my "feel good factor" depends much more on internal factors, like my relationship to God, to my wife and my children and to neighbours.

The Lord Jesus Christ once spoke to His disciples about dwellings in heaven. They were ignorant on that subject. They didn't know that they would have an eternal, heavenly home in the Father's house. Where God the Father was Himself at home in an atmosphere of love and peace, there the redeemed would come.

It is clear that no evil could ever enter there. All wickedness and people who wish to continue living in sinful conditions would be unsuitable for heaven. For all others Jesus Christ is the way to get there. Through faith in Him they have become changed persons, fit for God's presence. Jesus' promise assures them that they will be with Him in the Father's house for ever. And that gives them the strength to bear with so much trouble on earth.

Today's reading: Exodus 7:1-13 · Luke 2:36-40

MEAL OF REMEMBRANCE

The Holy Communion is a very significant meal. Unlike regular meals, it a meal of remembrance. When some people take this meal, they forget to heed the instruction in today's Bible reading where the Lord repeatedly said "this do in remembrance of Me". In other words, the meal reminds us of God's power of...More
