When Jesus departed from the town of Jericho, blind Bartimaus was...

Be of good cheer. Rise, he is calling you.
Mark 10:49.

When Jesus departed from the town of Jericho, blind Bartimaus was sitting by the wayside begging. He had been told that Jesus was passing; so he cried out that He should have mercy on him. Voices all round ordered him to be quiet. But Jesus stopped where He was and commanded him to be called. Then people said to him, "Be of good cheer. Rise, he is calling you." Hearing that, Bartimaus cast off his garment, stood up and came to Jesus.

Wasn't Jesus' call alone reason enough to be of good cheer? The blind man's trust was not disappointed; Jesus performed the desired miracle, and Bartimaus could see. He then followed the Lord.

People can also be spiritually blind. How many have never shown any interest in God, are blind regarding His love and righteousness, and are therefore blind regarding themselves. Their sins separate them from God.

God takes pains to make us aware of this trouble. Then we are in Bartimaus' situation, sitting there like a beggar in the knowledge that we are guilty before God, and feeling poor, wretched and lost. Then we hear those words: "Be of good cheer. He is calling you."

Jesus is there for everyone who sighs under the burden of sin. He is waiting to hear you confess your guilt, so that He can forgive you and free you from that burden. He will grant you peace, and you will then follow Him joyfully.

Don't let anyone hinder you from going to Jesus when He calls you. Bartimaus didn't. Follow his example!

MEAL OF REMEMBRANCE

The Holy Communion is a very significant meal. Unlike regular meals, it a meal of remembrance. When some people take this meal, they forget to heed the instruction in today's Bible reading where the Lord repeatedly said "this do in remembrance of Me". In other words, the meal reminds us of God's power of...More
