Twitter Remembers 18th Anniversary of Dave Matthews Band Dumping 800 Pounds of Poop on Passenger Cruise

18 years ago today, a Dave Matthews Band tour bus driver dumped 800 pounds of poop on a passenger cruise ship in Chicago.

And Twitter users won't let the foul incident be forgotten.

As originally reported by CBS, the band's driver, Stefan Wohl, pleaded guilty to dumping 800 pounds of human waste from the vehicle's septic tank–and onto a sightseeing boat with more than 100 people onboard–on the Chicago River back in 2004.

The driver was sentenced to 18 months probation, 150 hours of community service and the maximum $10,000 according to the report.

At the time of the incident, it was reported that the Dave Matthews Band attempted to rectify the wrongdoing by saying that if the bus was found to be responsible, the band would "work quickly to make amends, with the people on the boat and with Chicago."

Those comments were followed by $50,000 donations to the Chicago Park District and the Friends of the Chicago River.

The driver's legal penalties were not the only consequence of the dumping disaster, as the Internet remembered to celebrate the infamous incident on its 18th anniversary and slammed the band once more.

A popular Twitter account that sources interesting and bewildering content from the website Wikipedia, @depthsofwiki, rehashed the debacle in a very to-the-point post.

"18 years ago today," the account captioned the screenshots of Wikipedia's coverage of the scandal.

Soon after, other Twitter users were quick to mark the anniversary of the event which then began trending on the social media site.

"Happy 18th birthday dave matthews band poop incident," one user captioned the photo they shared of a sign seen at the Kinzie Street Bridge–the site of where the heinous happenings occurred.

More creative fans of 'Poopgate' hopped on the trend to make jokes and share memes.

Rock band Eve6 went for the band's jugular, and used lyrics from multiple Dave Matthews Band songs against the original creators in a now viral post.

"what would you say the space between the bus and the boat was. i’m wondering about the velocity of the crash. this is not a typical situation that happens everyday. if i lived there i’d still be like don’t drink the water," the band joked.

Dave Matthews Band did not issue a public statement or response to the online resurrection of the events.
